Project Information, Communication, and Publicity

The information, communication, and promotion activities of the project aim to inform the public about the availability of funds from the EEA Financial Mechanism through the PA16/RO12 Program for the Conservation and Revitalization of Cultural and Natural Heritage allocated to the region. These activities also ensure transparency in the use of funds, visibility of the donors and institutions responsible for managing and implementing the program, and promote examples of good practices. The publicity aims to create messages that meet the needs and desires of different homogeneous segments of cultural product and service consumers, and to convey these messages through appropriate media channels.

Expected Results:

• A scientific study published in a specialized journal.
• Digitization and public communication of all heritage items from the three museum institutions, forming the "Dumitru Dan Collection."
• Reconstruction of 6 songs, 5 Romanian folk dances, 497 pairs of opinci (traditional shoes), and the globe-trotter's stage shirt.Organization of a permanent exhibition celebrating 100 years since the first Romanian globe-trotter, Dumitru Dan, completed his journey around the world on foot, highlighting his personal belongings.

Creation of the exhibition space: "Dumitru Dan Collection" within the Buzău County Museum.

The project aims to unify all the heritage objects that belonged to Dumitru Dan, which he gave to various museums around the country, into a comprehensive "Dumitru Dan Collection." This collection will be showcased to reflect its true value, presenting to the general public material and immaterial cultural and traditional values.

Revitalization of Intangible Heritage: Audio and Video Reconstruction of Dumitru Dan's Songs and Dances

Due to the continuous transformation of society, few people today can transmit the meaning of the civilization of previous centuries in Romanian villages, especially the way of life of the peasant. There are fewer and fewer people willing to preserve and pass on these testimonies of the past, including Romanian folklore and traditions.

The four Romanian globe-trotters, during the preparation of their route, chose a repertoire of songs and dances representative of each Romanian province. This activity aims to involve professional artists and dancers who are experts in ethnographic values, and with their help, reconstruct the songs and dances performed by the Romanian globe-trotters between 1910 and 1916.

Revitalization of Intangible Heritage in the Southeast Region of Romania: The Craft of Making Opinci

The project seeks to promote and preserve intangible cultural heritage by revitalizing the craft of making opinci, a tradition on the verge of extinction in the Buzău region. The art of making opinci is now known by few people in the area, and even fewer still practice it. The project will organize 10 artisan workshops where a group of Roma students will learn the craft of making opinci.

This craft, which has been undervalued in recent times, will become an attractive skill for young Roma students, helping them develop practical abilities. This activity contributes to increasing the social inclusion of the target group and encourages greater openness among the population towards minorities.

Digitization of the "Dumitru Dan Collection"

The project will digitize and promote cultural heritage from the eastern region of Romania by disseminating it online and publishing it on the Europeana.eu portal, thus increasing public access.

Research and Documentation for the Valorization of the D. Dan Collection

The research component of this project has a significant cultural and social dimension, aimed at human communities in the regions of Bucharest, the Northeast, and Southeast of Romania. The proposed research theme will revisit, in an interdisciplinary context, the vast and complex topic of the journey made by the first Romanian globe-trotters at the beginning of the 20th century—a topic that enjoys great success in today's society, which is increasingly open to exploring new tourist destinations through travel.

The project will investigate an important event in local, national, and even international history, connected to the personality of the first Romanian globe-trotter, Dumitru Dan. He was a person of great merit and outstanding qualities, who later became known for promoting sports and tourism at a national level.

Project Management

This includes leading, implementing, evaluating, and promoting the project; coordinating and managing the financial assistance provided to the Buzău County Museum through the EEA Financial Mechanism 2009–2014.
