The Museum Bus project

What is Museum Bus?

Museum Bus is a museum on a minibus that adheres to exhibition standards, utilizes museum technology elements, and follows museum display methodology. It contains showcases, complementary materials, dedicated lighting, support for photo-video and audio playback, and is staffed by a museum curator.

Why Museum Bus?

In Buzău County, there are nearly 300 rural schools, with several thousand students. For various reasons, most of these students have not yet had the opportunity to visit our museum collections or any of the institution’s external locations. The Museum Bus was created precisely to bring the museum’s cultural and scientific message to all these educational units.

How does the Museum Bus travel?

For each trip, our museum provides free transportation of this mobile collection. The museum minibus is accompanied by a curator, an auxiliary staff member, and, of course, a driver. The objects, display cases, and equipment are set up on-site by our staff for the viewing experience.

How can we request the Museum Bus?

Since this project is dedicated to students in rural areas, the school unit needs to call or email us or leave a message on the museum’s Facebook page, informing us of the desired day and the number of students participating. Additionally, we can be contacted by representatives of local administrative units (UATs) within Buzău County.

How is the Museum Bus visited?

First of all, it is important to note that visiting the Museum Bus of the Buzău County Museum is free of charge, as it is a project fully funded by the Buzău County Council. The visit will be organized based on the number of students and teachers, and other community members may also participate. To monitor the activity, all those who visit the Mobile Museum will receive a free ticket upon entry.

What can we visit in the Museum Bus?

The objects displayed in the showcases, the explanatory panels, photos, and presentation films illustrate aspects from the Archaeology, History, and Art sections, as well as from the special collections "Dumitru Dan – the first Romanian globe-trotter" and "The Telephone Collection of the Buzău County Museum," the largest of its kind in Romania. Visitors will also learn relevant information about the most important archaeological sites in Buzău County and discover what the archaeologist’s research work entails.
