We present the largest collection of Romanian tapestry in the country.

The criteria for selecting the decorative artists present in the exhibition halls through their works is generous, in the sense that the tapestries of some great contemporary Romanian artists were chosen. There are names known at the European level. It is worth noting the names and renown of the artists who created the tapestries: Mimi Podeanu, Aurelia Gheaţă, Ioan Stendl, Ileana Balotă, Maria Mihalache Blendea and Constantin Blendea, Carmen Groza, Şerbana Drăgoescu, Ileana Teodorini - Dan, Maria Cociopolos, Simona Chintilă, Spiru Chintilă, Mariana Oloier Ghita, Vintilă Mihăilescu, Victoria Radu, Berta Benko-Mrazec, Ovidiu Paştina, Constanţa Crişan, Nicolae Balaş, Mariana Ionaşcu, Pavel Codiță, Lucretia Pacea, Geta Brătescu, Liana Şaru, Diana Schor, Florin Menzopol and Cela Neamţu, along with many others. Each of the authors brings an innovative vision on the intimate springs that govern the relationship between the tapestry, the folk barks and perhaps even the decoration of some archaeological relics.

The means of aesthetic expression characteristic of the compositional space of tapestries are subordinated to the desire to visually enhance Romanian traditions and highlight the achievements achieved so far, in this sense.

The use of natural textile fibers, mainly wool and cotton, the use of the basse-lisse and haute-lisse technique, the geometrizing stylization and the preservation of simplified/synthetic expressions of plastic representation of the motifs represent the connecting bridges with peasant art. Beyond these similarities, the works of the artists present in the unique collection of the heritage museum of the Buzău County Museum are individualized through distinct compositional visions. The way of integrating the specific ornaments is achieved through a unique relationship, that between the compositional whole and the significant detail.

On the other hand, the classic tapestry techniques have particularities that distinguish this art from any other category of fabrics. The hidden warp and weft threads that do not completely cross the length of the fabric - they are limited to the chromatic areas imposed by the contours of the various elements of the decorative composition - are specific only to the tapestry. The transposition and orientation of the design according to which the decorative form is executed during the weaving is based on the interdependence between the structure and the chromatic effect of the form.

Worthy of note for this stage in the evolution of Romanian tapestry are the contributions of great and remarkable tapestry artists such as Mimi Podeanu, Aurelia Ghiaţă, Maria Blendea, Cela Neamţu, Ileana Balotă.

Through the diversity of styles and the patrimonial importance of the works, the exhibitions of contemporary Romanian tapestry and ceramic pieces from the art collection of the Buzău County Museum bring countless elements of plastic and visual novelty, forming an edifying plea for understanding the aesthetic qualities of the monumental tapestry that art. The works illustrate an important page in the history of Romanian textile art, bringing a meritorious contribution to the integration of national cultural-identity values, in the national and international circuit of textile creation.
