Camp Magura Open Air Museum
The camp is located in the meadows near the Ciolanu Monastery, on the territory of Tisău commune, approx. 33 kilometers away from Buzau. It is the result of an unprecedented artistic and cultural project, initiated by the sculptor Gheorghe Coman and supported by the Union of Plastic Artists from Romania.
The project, carried out for 16 years, between 1970 and 1985, marked the 16 centuries since the documentary attestation of Buzău. During its development, every year 16 artists gathered on the shores of Măguria who transformed the local stone into works of art, with the help of stone masons from the area. The 256 statuary groups and statues are the creation of 153 Romanian sculptors, who donated the result of their work to Buzău County.
The camp has been administered by the Buzău County Museum since 2006.
