  • The Dacian fortress from Târcov

The Dacian fortress of Târcov is located about 7 km north of Pârscov, near the village of Târcov. It is placed on a hard-to-reach hill, called by the locals Piatra cu Lilieci, having three steep sides and a maximum height of 735 m. The citadel is in a dominant position over the Buzău valley, which certainly gave it an important military role .

The data provided by the archaeological discoveries indicated that this fortress functioned in the second half of the century. I BC, during the reign of King Decebalus. This fortification probably had a role in the defensive system organized by Decebal, namely to control the access to Transylvania on the upper course of the Buzău river.

During the archaeological research, construction remains were discovered (surface or semi-deep dwellings), some of which were set on fire. Most of the houses were made of wood, the walls being covered with clay in the paianta technique.

Archaeological excavations have brought to light numerous artifacts, the most numerous of which are ceramic fragments from supply vessels, cooking vessels, drinking vessels such as mugs or cups, but also vessels from which food was served such as straws with high leg or bowls. For lighting, the Dacians used opaiç cups, using sheep's wool.

Apart from the ceramic vessels, iron tools and utensils, knives, nails, scoops, weapons (spearheads and arrowheads), bronze ornaments and accessories and glass beads as well as stone grinders were also discovered.

Systematic archaeological research began in 2007 and, with minor interruptions, continues today.
