Pentru a sărbători Ziua Internațională a Francofoniei, ICR Bruxelles în colaborare cu Muzeul Județean Buzău și Consiliul Județean Buzău, Asociația RoAth, Primăria orașului Ath – Valonia și Ambasada României în Regatul Belgiei prezintă proiectul „Ocolul lumii pe jos. Povestea celor 497 perechi de opinci”, expoziție panotată, proiecția filmului OPINCI și prelegeri.

The opening event will take place on March 18 and will include the opening of the panty-panty exhibition “The World’s Detour. The story of the 497 pairs of opinci”, the presentation of the short film “Opinci” directed by Anton and Damian Groves, lectures by dr. Daniel Costache and Alexandru Anghel, representatives of the Buzău County Museum. The exhibition will be able to visit until March 31.

The opening will be attended by the Romanian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Andreea Pastârnac, representatives of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Brussels, the RoAth Association, the Ath Museum, as the representatives of the City Hall of Ath.

Expoziția cuprinde 20 imagini care valorifică patrimoniul inedit legat de personalitatea globe-trotter-ului român Dumitru Dan, imagini cu documente din timpul călătoriei, cu obiecte personale, contribuind la creșterea nivelului de informare și conștientizare a importanței și unicității acestui patrimoniu inedit.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the world on foot made by the first Romanian globe-trotter, the Buzau County Museum organized a permanent exhibition, “The World’s By-Air on the Shore. The story of the 497 pairs of opinci”, in which, through a multidisciplinary research of goods with historical-documentary value, the unique patrimony related to Dumitru Dan’s personality was capitalized through the exhibition for the first place of his personal objects, of travel documents, by digitizing a number of 677 patrimony assets owned by three public institutions, the Buzau County Museum, the Museum Complex “Iulian Antonescu”.

Dumitru Dan (14 iulie 1889, Buhuși – 4 decembrie 1978, Buzău) a fost geograf, profesor de geografie și globe-trotter român. În perioada 1910-1916, Dumitru Dan, alături de alți trei români, a luat parte la concursul organizat de Touring Club de France, concurs întrerupt din cauza Primului Război Mondial şi finalizat pe 14 iulie 1923 la Paris, unde i s-au înmânat premiul şi titlul de campion mondial. Patru temerari studenți români au pregătit periplul în timp ce se aflau la Paris, imediat ce au aflat despre marele concurs organizat de Touring Club de France, de a ocoli pământul pe jos. Dumitru Dan şi Paul Pârvu erau studenţi la Facultatea de Geografie de la Sorbona, iar ceilalţi doi – la Conservatorul de Muzică.

From the diary that Dumitru Dan kept, we find valuable information about the trip, about the obstacles encountered, about the death of the three comrades on the road (Alexandru Pascu, on July 17, 1911, in Bombay, in India, George Negreanu fell into a cliff at the crossing of the Nan-Ling Mountains in China, Paul Pârvu, in January 1915, in Jacksonville, Florida, when the trip had already gathered 90.

În luna iulie a anului 1923, în cadrul unei ceremonii organizată de Touring Club de France, lui Dumitru Dan i-a fost decernat titlul de campion mondial şi înmânat premiul de 100.000 de franci francezi pentru finalizarea extraordinarei călătorii de 100.000 de kilometri parcurşi pe jos în jurul Pământului.

During his journey around the world, Dumitru Dan used 497 pairs of opinches and 28 national costumes and visited over 1,500 major cities in 74 countries of the world and 30 colonies on five continents, crossed three oceans and 7 seas.

His performance remained unmatched, being inscribed in the Guarin Records in 1985.

Pentru a marca Ziua Internațională a Francofoniei, ICR Bruxelles consideră că proiectul  se încadrează în obiectivele Organizației Internaționale a Francofoniei „de a promova și proteja diversitatea expresiilor culturale în politica de susținere a patrimoniului cultural și a creației artistice ca nouă formă de solidaritate umană.”

De asemenea, „Ocolul lumii pe jos. Povestea celor 497 perechi de opinci” este un proiect gândit pentru a întări legăturile dintre cele două culturi, prin (re)descoperirea și cunoașterea „celuilalt”, punând în paralel trecutul cultural și valorile românești vis-à-vis de cele belgiene, într-un oraș în care folclorul şi tradiţiile au servit ca punct de plecare pentru o campanie reînnoită cu scopul de a le promova.

The project is addressed to the inhabitants of the city and region of Ath, regardless of age and contributes to the knowledge of an important event for the local and national history of Romania, related to the personality of the first Romanian globe-trotter, a person with special merits and qualities, who was also noted later by the promotion at national level of sports activities and tourism.

Through this project, ICR Brussels celebrates the International Day of La Francophonie in the year in which Romania’s accession to the OIF (1993) is celebrated and continues to promote the Romanian cultural heritage, fulfilling its purpose of transmitting national cultural values to the public from the reference space.
